About two weeks ago, the bigger of the littles was playing with her Little Tikes Cozy Coupe car (ok...perhaps she was climbing out the window of the car trying to get on the roof...) when the car tipped over on her and she fell. She cried initially, but quickly seemed to be over her injury. Occassionally, she'd complain that her arm hurt and she wasn't using it quite like normal. I thought to myself, "I wonder if it's broken?" But didn't want to rush her to the doctor and be "that" mom, so I thought we'll just watch it and see how she does. Sounds reasonable, right!?
The next day ended up being quite traumatic for Miss Avery's poor arm. There was an incident with an escalator that left Av in a heap of tears and mommy stuck several stairs ahead of her with baby sister in one hand the the stroller in the other, helpless to get to my hurting and scared one. Later that same day, big sis was waiting in the stroller post-walk when the stroller (with the brakes on) took off down my parent's rather steep driveway eventually tipping over and tossing Avery out. Again more tears, more complaints of a sore arm.
Over the next few days, Avery would still complain about her arm hurting, but her complaints were becoming less frequent and she was using it more. But a week later, it was still hurting so I decided it was time to take her in for an x-ray...you know...just to prove to everyone that it wasn't broken.
We went to the doctor's office. They took x-rays. As soon as the nurse stuck them on that light up board, I saw it. A fracture. Her arm had been broken for 8 days. I felt awful! Luckily, the doctor said there was no need to cast it, just to put it in a sling. She reassured me that parents waiting to bring there child in with a broken arm "happens a lot...especially when mom is a nurse!" Didn't really make me feel any better, but I appreciate the effort!
As they were fitting her in the little dinosaur sling, Avery's eyes were wide and I could see she was fighting back the tears. I tried to be positive - telling her how cool the dinosaurs were, but as soon as we got to the car she burst into tears and cried, "I HATE dinosaurs! They're mean!"
Feeling terrible about the fact that my daughter had been walking around with a broken arm for over a week, I wanted to fix this sling problem for her. A little browsing on Etsy and a few extra bucks for overnight shipping and she's much happier to be sporting her Ariel sling! And her arm is already much better!
