Six Months.

Can you believe it?! Riley Kate is 6 months old today. That's half a year, by the way. I'm amazed. She's amazing.

Like the good little girl that she sometimes likes to be, she followed my instructions and starting sitting up...today! About a month ago I asked her to please try her best to meet this milestone in time for her 6 months photo shoot and sure enough. She did. Way to go, baby girl!
Riley continues to be an absolute delight and celebrated addition to our family, even though she is not the "easiest" of babies. I'd definitely say some things are getting better. Sleeping and having a more predictable routine are the biggest struggles, but she's come a long way in being able to play a little more "independently." She's starting to vocalize more and more. I love hearing her sweet little voice and infectious giggles.

We took Riley to the doctor today for her 6 month check-up. She's weighing in at 14 pounds 14 ounces (28th percentile) and 26 inches long (61st percentile) and her head is 17 inches (60th percentile).
The drool continues. And continues. It never seems to end. Teeth are somewhere in our future. Although, we've been doing this for months now and I still don't see or feel anything starting to poke through those little gums, so who knows. I do know that I find myself choosing clothes for myself based on what will hide the slobber the best (that is when I'm not wearing sweat pants and t-shirts)...classic mom.
We also introduced "solid" foods about a week ago. Although, there's not much solid about soupy, runny, slightly thicker than breast milk rice ceral, but sure, we can call it "solids." She's not a huge fan, but she does seem to enjoy sitting in her highchair. I think we'll give some veggies a try soon. I'm going to try and make some baby food myself. I've already done a batch of sweet potatoes, so as soon as I can get some other veggies ready to go, we'll give it a shot!

These next three pictures aren't the best, but were too funny and classic not to include. In the middle of Riley's little "let's mark 6 months photo-op," Avery wanders over and gives a very sweet hug and kiss to her "baby Kate" (as she's taken to calling her on occassion!). Precious. Awww. Melts this momma's heart.
No more than 30 seconds later, Riley reaches out in her uncoordinated, infant way to touch her big sister's face.
Big sis interprets this "reaching" as hitting and finds it necessary to return the affection.
What happened next was not captured on camera, but if I had you would have seen big sis in the corner for a 3 minute time-out with little sis still propped on her blanket laughing at big sis in the midst of her punishment. Classic sisters. Gotta love it.
