Sick Baby

Wednesday morning Avery woke up and Mommy thought she felt warm. When I took her temperature, it was 101.8. I gave her Tylenol and just kept checking her temp all day. Her fever stayed between 101.2 and 102.4 all day, but she acted completely normal. She wasn't fussy or lethargic at all.

The next morning I checked her temp and it was 102.8, but she was still acting completely normal. While Avery was napping that morning, I decided to go ahead and call the doctor's office. The nurse asked the doctor -- who is our friend, Hilary -- if she wanted to see Avery and she did. We made an appointment for that afternoon. When she woke up, she was a completely different baby. She wasn't fussy, but very lethargic and sad. She just laid in my arms all day, sleeping on and off, while we read books and sang songs.

When we got to her appointment, Hilary came in and looked her over. Other than her temp she looked completely healthy. Her ears looked good and her lungs sounded clear. Hilary ordered a chest x-ray just to make sure everything was ok since Avery had had such a high fever for over 24 hours. Sure enough, Avery had pneumonia! She gave us a prescription for Amoxicillin and we headed home.

The next morning, Avery's fever had broke and she was back to her old self! She even started crawling that day.

Avery loved playing with the Get Well Balloon from her little friend, Ellie and mommy is enjoying the beautiful flowers!

Friday night, after spending the evening with family, we were putting Avery to bed and noticed a fine, pale rash behind her ears on on her forehead. I decided to just wait and see how it looked in the morning, since it didn't seem to bother her at all.

Saturday morning, her rash had spread to all over her chest and back and she was starting to scratch at her ears. I realized she was probably having an allergic reaction to her Amoxicillin. I really didn't want to go to the urgent care center, so I called Hilary at home (something I try not to do!). She called us in a different prescription, but the rash got worse before it got better.

Today, Sunday, she is completely better. Well, we survived her first fever and illness. She was such a trooper and I'm so glad to have my happy, healthy Avery back!
