We're still here!

Well six months later I guess it's finally time for a blog update! Six months ago I got pregnant with baby #2 which was very exciting, surprising news. Unfortunately my excitement and joy was quickly overshadowed by constant nausea and very frequent vomitting. The past 5 months have been difficult to say the very least. I'm so grateful for a supportive husband and a wonderful family and group of friends who took care of me and took care of my Avery on the hardest days.

But now we've made it to 27 weeks! We got the exciting news that we're having another little girl and I'm so excited for Avery to have a sister! She is very excited too! She talks about her baby sister a lot and will peek into my belly button trying to see her. What a cutie!

I'm so glad to be feeling better in time to celebrate the holidays. I love the Christmas season. The lights, the sounds, the smells...such a wonderful time of year. It's been so much fun getting the house decorated and teaching Avery about Christmas. Avery is so delightful and says so many funny things. Here's just one story from this holiday season so far.

I really wanted to decorate the tree together as a family, but it just didn't work out with work schedules, travel schedules, etc so one day while Avery was napping I put all the trimmings on the tree. Avery got up from her nap and came to inspect my work. At first she seemed to be in awe, but then she walked right up to the tree, pointed to my baby ornament from 1984 and said "It's a onion!" I took the opportunity to show her her baby ornaments and talk to her about how she used to be a little baby, but now she's a big girl and soon there will be another little baby in the house that we'll have to take care of just like we took care of her. She listened to my blabbering, thought for a minute and then said, "Your baby ornament is a onion, mom!" Oh silly girl!

Truly, I love that the tree and our ornaments are beginning to tell our family story. Pulling out the different symbols of significant moments in our life together is so fun and a great time to reflect. It's fun too to think back that a year ago, Avery was just beginning to really talk a lot. Last year, she would point to the nativity set and say "Baby SeeSaw!" Now she'll name all of the "characters" and sing "Away in the Manger." She's growing up so fast and we're loving every - well almost every -minute of it! Two certainly comes with some new challenges!

I hope to be back to blogging more often. So check back to hear about the sassy sayings of Miss Avery and the preparations being done for the little peanut!
