Planning Ahead

Looking ahead to a very busy week AND Riley's 4 month birthday on Saturday. Knowing how busy this week will be, I decided to avoid the "0ops Riley was 4 months old three weeks ago and I'm just now updating on her" scenario that is likely to happen more often than not in the future and do a little update a few days in advance this time!
Miss Riley Kate's little personality is growing and showing it's self more and more. She's definitely been happier having playtime on the floor, sitting in her bouncy seat and having tummy time. She's also starting to be more interested in the books we read. She loves to reach out and help hold the pages.
Riley rolled over from her back to her tummy for the first time this past month. Although, she did it three times in a row one day for mommy, but hasn't done it since! Little stinker!
I still think that Riley is a bit more serious than Avery was. She really makes us work hard for those smiles, but when she grins it's just melts your heart.
I wouldn't call her grumpy, but she's definitely a girl who wants things a particular way and she'll let you know when she's unhappy. That's not grumpy, right!? Just...picky? Difficult? High-strung? Her mother's daughter?!
One of the changes in Riley's life this past month came when Mommy went back to work two nights a week. It's been a big adjustment for Riley (and for the whole family, too!). We're still working on learning our new routine. I know it will take time, but we'll eventually get there.
I hope that Riley and I can make some progress on her sleep schedule. Not so much the schedule part...more the sleeping part. She is taking her naps and going to bed at consistent times, but she rarely stays asleep unless she's being held...by mommy. This creates quite a problem when mom's at work all night or has other things she needs to do. I'm sure we'll get it figured out and I keep reminding myself that someday I'll miss these days where all my baby wanted me to do was to hold her. In the meantime we're getting lots of good use out of the baby sling and Baby Bjorn.
Riley has discovered her feet in the past couple of weeks.
How could she not, when she's got such cute little shoes on? Don't tell her...they're hand-me-downs from big sis again! :)
Proof that a girl's love for shoes is instinctual and natural...present from the very beginning!
I was super late in calling to schedule Ry's 4 month check-up and we can't get in to see the doctor until the middle of July, so I won't have Riley's official 4 month numbers (weight, height, etc) until then, but I'm guessing she's in the 13 pound range (did you notice the thigh chub in the first picture? Too cute!) and she's definitely grown in the height category this past month. She's starting to outgrow some of her 0-3 month clothes and I don't think we'll be in size 1 diapers much longer...sadness...
Love her drooly chin. The girl is constantly chewing on her hands and covered in drool most of the time. I know she's learning about the world around her by putting things in her mouth, but seriously...it's kinda gross kiddo!
Side note and shout-out to my friend, Elizabeth, for inspiring me and encouraging me to learn more about my camera and how to use it better. These pics today were part of that practicing...still lots of room to learn and improve, but I'm having fun not shooting in "green square" mode! Needless to say, our photo shoot with Riley was kinda long, so she made sure to let me know when she was done..
I'M DONE!
